Collaborative Community Production: Auditions

Two workshop-style auditions are scheduled for you to find out more about and express your interest in being part of our Spring community production; a collaborative performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

This production is being developed as a partnership between The Electric Sunshine Project (TESP), House of Wingz and Blackpool & Fylde College. ‘Dream’ is a play made up of three different ‘worlds’; the lovers, the mechanicals and the fairy kingdom and each organisation will be leading on one of these worlds, all will be united beautifully prior to public performances which will be held at 7pm at The Old Electric on Friday 19 + Saturday 21 May 2022.

This audition process is seeking performers to play the mechanicals and the fairies. Please note, we are not looking to cast the lovers as these will be played by BP+F Acting students under the direction of BA Course Leader Mike Holdsworth.

The Tuesday audition session will be led by Aishley Docherty of House of Wingz and will be predominantly seeking out these with an interest in a movement focussed role. Auditions for fairy kingdom roles are open to anyone aged 13+ years. We will also be looking for our Titania, Oberon and Puck at this casting session.

The Thursday session will be led by Melanie Whitehead of TESP and will be largely seeking to cast those with a speaking role predominantly in the mechanicals sections.

Whilst we do not expect you to prepare a speech or dance in advance, we anticipate that you will have a basic knowledge of the play and an idea of the type of role that you would be interested in playing. You are however also welcome to attend both sessions.

Come along with a creative spirit of adventure, an openness to learning and a desire to be part of a fabulous Blackpool-wide crew of all ages who are developing this ambitious and innovative production. This is the perfect way to meet new like-minded people and push your own boundaries in a fun, focused and supportive environment.

Participants must register in advance for this audition and come dressed to take part in practical activity.

These are non-paid roles but do offer a huge learning experience for all involved.
