Wild Writing

Event details

20 April at 12:00 pm 2:00 pm

£5.00 | 18+

Join theatre-maker and writer Victoria Firth for a practical session exploring ways to start writing without being limited by ideas of being good enough, fitting with expectations of form, or needing to finish. We will play with free writing and autobiography, be inspired by both the every day and the magic, and see what there is to discover in the treasure of fragments. The session is suitable for those with no experience and existing writers who want to play. Wild Writing is inspired by Victoria’s new theatre show BATTY! – An alternative coming of age story appearing at The Old Electric on 25 and 26 October.

‘Batty has dreams – vivid ones of running barefoot, wild swimming, of talking trees, strange animals and the scent of the seasons turning. In fact she’s starting to wonder if she might be a witch. Of course she can’t be –but something is changing, something is coming…’

Please note this is a new workshop and participants will be asked to give feedback at the end of the session.

About Victoria Firth

Victoria Firth is a theatre maker, performer and writer working at the intersection of theatre, live art and cabaret. She is interested in empathy, embodiment and connection – getting under the skin of things that lots of us feel but often don’t talk about. She has written two plays ‘How to be amazingly happy!’ about childlessness and reinvention, and her new show ‘Batty!’ about the need for wildness which is coming soon to The Old Electric. Her poetry has been published by Northern Gravy and she hosts her own online blog. She also provides well-being support and mentoring to other artists and runs workshops on the topic of self-care for creatives.
