The Art of Adaptation

Event details

25 May at 2:00 pm 5:00 pm

£5.00 | 16+

From Heart of Darkness to Dracula, Night of the Living Dead, and most recently Frankenstein, imitating the dog have become known for their bold and thrilling multi-media retellings of well-known stories from the worlds of novels and cinema.

In this masterclass, writer/director and ITD co-artistic director Andrew Quick will share with you the processes and principles that guide the company’s creative choices as they adapt these classic texts. You will then have a chance to practically explore some of the questions and decisions necessary to adapt an existing narrative of your choice and develop an original treatment for the stage. Please bring along a brief plot synopsis of a story you know well from a generally well-known fictional novel or film. A familiarity with existing adaptations of that story in other media may also be helpful but not essential.
